Cybersecurity Systems & Infrastructure Engineer | Walmart - Reston, VA




Position Overview

  • Role: Systems & Infrastructure Engineer with Walmart’s Edge Ingress Security team
  • Location: Reston, VA (Hybrid work model available)
  • Focus: Protect Walmart’s global internet sites and applications from cyber threats, such as DDoS attacks, fraud, and unauthorized access

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze logs to detect scripted traffic, account takeovers, and fraud; identify and mitigate layer 7 attacks and other anomalies.
  • Assess security events from dashboards and alerts; determine severity and respond to threats swiftly.
  • Hunt for unusual or fraudulent traffic patterns, identify vulnerabilities, and secure digital assets.
  • Develop and deploy bot mitigation across Walmart’s global sites; manage bot traffic during high-traffic sales events.
  • Build and enhance reporting, dashboards, and alerting mechanisms; track security measures and long-term defense strategy effectiveness.
  • Document resolutions to technical issues; conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for incidents to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with Walmart’s site teams to classify and manage bot traffic; communicate security measures across departments.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in log analysis tools (e.g., Splunk); strong understanding of web and network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL).
  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML, Cookies, DDoS protection; familiarity with scripting and database languages.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail; self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; team player with cross-functional collaboration experience.
  • Preferred qualifications include certifications (Security+, CISSP, GISF, etc.) and knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
