Role Overview:

  • Dynamic Research Role: As a Researcher at TMZ, you’ll take the lead on in-depth research that underpins each production, ensuring that every story is accurate, compelling, and informative.
  • Story Development: Working closely with producers and talent, you’ll be a crucial part of the pre-production process, shaping the content that reaches millions of viewers.
  • Attention to Detail: This role requires significant reading, analysis, and the ability to condense large amounts of information into streamlined, engaging summaries.
  • Media & Content Curation: You’ll also source and organize visual media, including photos and videos, to support each episode and bring stories to life in unique ways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Comprehensive Research: Dig deep into topics for each episode, often working with a wealth of information and distilling it into concise summaries for producers.
  • Manage Media Resources: Search through archives and curate relevant photos, videos, and other supporting materials that add depth to stories and engage viewers.
  • Coordinate Guest Appearances: Research and book guests to feature in episodes, ensuring a variety of engaging perspectives for each story.
  • Leverage Database Skills: Utilize advanced research tools like LexisNexis, as well as online databases, social media, and public records to find crucial information.
  • High-Pressure Problem Solving: In TMZ’s fast-paced environment, you’ll juggle multiple priorities and adapt quickly, always delivering high-quality research under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field is required, as well as strong writing and summarizing abilities.
  • Experience Level: We’re looking for candidates with 5+ years of experience in entertainment media, digital news, or editorial work—those familiar with the demands of TV production or similar environments.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with LexisNexis, Google search, and public records research is highly valued. Knowledge of MS Office tools, including Word, Outlook, and Excel, is also essential.
  • Social Media Savvy: Experience monitoring and leveraging social media platforms for research purposes is beneficial.
  • Independent & Detail-Oriented: The ideal candidate is self-sufficient, capable of managing long-term research projects solo, and meticulous in their work.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: This role offers a base salary range of $70,000 - $76,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and education.
